Why 300 DPI Is the Number That Matters
DPI is how many ink dots the printer lays down per inch. A file can look crisp on your screen and still print soft and fuzzy, because screens and printers measure detail differently. Building your design at 300 DPI at full print size is the single biggest thing you can do to avoid a blurry result.
When You Need a Transparent PNG
Save apparel, sticker, and tote designs as transparent PNGs. Without transparency you'll get a visible white or coloured box printed around the artwork — one of the most common beginner mistakes. JPEG has no transparency, so save it for posters and full-bleed designs where the background is meant to print.
Always Look at the Mockup First
The mockup is your last chance to catch a problem before a customer does. Check that the design sits centred and reads clearly, and watch for seams, pockets, zippers, collars, and mug handles cutting across it.
